From Locked Doors to Living Faith

Apr 16, 2026By FirstBCBP

There are moments in life when fear feels like a closed door—quiet, heavy, and isolating. Maybe it’s the fear of what’s next, the weight of a difficult decision, or the uncertainty of a season you didn’t expect. We’ve all had times when we’ve wanted to retreat, to hide, or to simply wait for things to feel safe again. I remember a season when I felt overwhelmed by change, unsure of how to move forward. Even though I believed God was with me, my heart felt locked behind its own set of doors.

John 20:19–22 gives us a powerful picture of how Jesus responds to fear. The disciples were gathered behind locked doors, unsure of what the future held. They had heard the news of the resurrection, but their hearts were still trembling. And yet, Jesus didn’t wait for them to be brave. He didn’t wait for them to open the door. He came to them right where they were and spoke the words they needed most: “Peace be with you.”

This moment reveals something essential about the heart of God. He steps into the places where fear tries to hold us still. He brings peace that doesn’t depend on circumstances and breathes strength into us through the Holy Spirit. When Jesus showed His hands and side, He reminded the disciples that His victory was real—and that their fear was not the end of their story.

As we reflect on this passage, we’re invited to consider where fear may be shaping our decisions, our thoughts, or our expectations. Jesus doesn’t shame us for being afraid; He meets us with peace and empowers us to move forward with renewed faith. His presence transforms fear into courage, uncertainty into trust, and hesitation into purpose.

Here are a few practical steps to walk from fear into faith this week: • Name the fear honestly. God can meet you in what you’re willing to acknowledge. • Receive His peace intentionally. Pause and breathe in the truth of His presence. • Lean on the Holy Spirit. Ask for strength, clarity, and courage for the next step. • Take one small step of faith. Movement, even small movement, builds trust.

No matter what doors feel closed around you, Jesus is not limited by them. He comes with peace, breathes life into weary hearts, and leads us forward with grace. You are not alone, and your story is still unfolding in His hands.
