Good News in Unexpected Places

Apr 07, 2026By FirstBCBP

Early one morning, a woman walked through a quiet cemetery on her way to visit a loved one’s grave. The air was still, the ground damp with dew, and her heart heavy with memories. She didn’t expect anything to change that day—she simply came to honor what she had lost. But as she stood there, the sun broke through the clouds in a way that felt almost intentional, almost like a whisper of hope. It didn’t erase her grief, but it reminded her that God often meets us in the places we least expect.

Matthew 28:1–10 tells a similar story. Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to the tomb expecting to tend to Jesus’ body. Instead, they encountered an angel, an earthquake, and the announcement that Jesus had risen. What looked like a place of defeat became the birthplace of victory. The graveyard became the setting for the greatest good news the world has ever known.

The resurrection teaches us that God is not intimidated by the places in our lives that feel dead, buried, or beyond repair. He steps into our fear with the same words spoken at the tomb: “Do not be afraid.” He calls us to see what He has already transformed. And just as Jesus met Mary Magdalene on her way, He meets us in motion—when we’re walking, searching, grieving, or trying to make sense of what’s next.

If you’re facing a situation that feels like a dead end, the resurrection invites you to look again. God specializes in bringing life out of loss and purpose out of pain. He turns endings into beginnings and graveyards into gardens. The empty tomb is your reminder that nothing is too far gone for Him to redeem.

Practical steps for the week:
• Identify one area of your life that feels “buried” and bring it to God in prayer.
• Speak resurrection truth over it: “God can bring life here.”
• Look for small signs of hope—God often starts with gentle reminders.
• Share your testimony with someone who needs encouragement.

As you move through this week, remember that the same Jesus who called the women by name calls you, too. He meets you in your fear, strengthens you in your uncertainty, and leads you into hope. There is good news waiting for you, even in unexpected places.
