Lifted, Steadied, Renewed: The Journey From Trust to Testimony

Jan 19, 2026By FirstBCBP

There are seasons in life when trusting God feels like waiting in a place we never planned to be. Psalm 40:1–3 gives language to that experience. David describes crying out to the Lord, waiting patiently, and discovering that God was listening the entire time. This passage reminds us that trust is not passive—it is a steady, hopeful posture that believes God is working even when we cannot see it.

The sermon invited us to consider how God meets us in those waiting places. David says God lifted him out of a “slimy pit” and set his feet on solid ground. That imagery speaks to the moments when life feels unstable or overwhelming. Yet God does not simply pull us out; He establishes us. He gives us footing again. He restores clarity, strength, and direction.

One of the most powerful truths in this passage is that God gives David a new song. This is more than a melody—it is a renewed testimony. When God brings us through something, He gives us language we didn’t have before. Our story becomes richer. Our gratitude becomes deeper. Our faith becomes more rooted in who God is rather than what we feel.

The transformation doesn’t stop with us. David says that many will see and fear the Lord because of what God has done in his life. Our testimony becomes a light for others. The places where we struggled become the places where someone else finds hope. God uses our journey to strengthen the faith of those around us.

As you reflect on your own life, consider the places where trust is still being formed. What might God be shaping in you? What new song might He be preparing to place in your heart? The waiting may feel long, but God is faithful. He is writing a testimony that will not only lift you but also encourage others who are watching your journey unfold.
