Sustained in the Struggle: Finding Strength in Christ's Example
There are days when doing the right thing feels like walking uphill with no end in sight. Maybe it’s choosing patience when frustration rises, or holding your integrity when shortcuts seem easier. We all know what it feels like to try our best and still face resistance. I once spoke with a woman who said, “I’m trying to honor God, but it feels like the more I do right, the harder things get.” Her words echo the tension many of us carry quietly.
In 1 Peter 2:19–25, we’re reminded that God sees the weight of that struggle. Peter writes to believers facing unfair treatment, encouraging them that their endurance matters to God. This wasn’t a call to suffer for suffering’s sake, but a reminder that choosing righteousness—even when it costs us—brings honor to the One who sustains us.
Peter then points us to Christ. Jesus endured unjust suffering without retaliation, trusting the Father completely. He didn’t respond out of anger or fear; He responded out of purpose. His suffering wasn’t meaningless—it was redemptive. Through His wounds, we find healing. Through His endurance, we find an example. Through His sacrifice, we find the strength to keep going.
When we face hardship for doing what is right, we are not abandoned. God is shaping our character, deepening our trust, and drawing us closer to His heart. The struggle becomes a place where His sustaining grace meets us in ways comfort never could. Christ, our Shepherd, walks with us, guiding us back when we wander and holding us steady when we feel weak.
If you’re in a season where obedience feels heavy, take these steps:
- Pause and breathe: Acknowledge the struggle without shame.
- Look to Christ’s example: Remember that He understands unjust suffering.
- Pray for strength: Ask God to steady your heart and renew your endurance.
- Stay rooted in Scripture: Let truth anchor your emotions.
- Lean into community: God often sustains us through the encouragement of others.
As you move through the week, remember this: God sees your faithfulness. He honors your obedience. And He will sustain you in every struggle you face.
