When God Breathes on What Feels Lost
There are seasons when life feels like a valley — quiet, heavy, and uncertain. I remember a moment when someone shared how they felt stuck in a routine that drained them. Nothing was necessarily “wrong,” but nothing felt alive either. Their days felt like dry ground, and they wondered if God still had more for them. Many of us have stood in that same place, unsure of what God could possibly do with what feels empty.
Ezekiel knew that feeling. In Ezekiel 37:1–10, God leads him into a valley filled with dry bones — a picture of complete hopelessness. Yet God asks a surprising question: “Son of man, can these bones live?” It wasn’t a test of Ezekiel’s optimism; it was an invitation to trust God’s power beyond what his eyes could see. God then commands Ezekiel to speak His word over the bones, and as he obeys, the bones come together, breath enters them, and they stand as a vast army. What once symbolized death becomes a testimony of God’s restoring power.
This passage teaches us that God doesn’t avoid the dry places in our lives — He steps into them. He speaks into the areas we’ve given up on, the dreams we’ve buried, and the strength we feel we’ve lost. His breath brings alignment, renewal, and purpose. The same God who revived the bones in the valley is the God who revives weary hearts today.
If you’re navigating a dry season, here are a few steps to help you lean into God’s renewing work:
- Acknowledge the valley. God meets us where we truly are, not where we pretend to be.
- Speak God’s Word over your situation. His truth carries life, direction, and hope.
- Stay open to His breath. Renewal often comes gently, gradually, and unexpectedly.
- Trust His timing. Restoration is a process, but God is faithful in every step.
Take heart — God is not finished with you. Even in the places that feel lifeless, His breath can bring movement again. May you sense His renewing presence this week and find courage to believe that your story is still unfolding.
